Oneta Smith (Mrs. Joe Hall) is shown standing on the railroad tracks near the Sharpsburg depot. All of the buildings shown no longer exist on Depot Street in Sharpsburg. The station sign always read "Sharpsboro," but the U.S. Post Office sign read "Sharpsburg." None of the Sharpsburg townspeople can justify the discrepancy of names.

Sharpsburg Town Council
Description
An account of the resource
This group of gentlemen are members of the Sharpsburg Town Council at a meeting, probably in the late 1940's, at the old Bridges and Cole Store. The store remained the center of activity in Sharpsburg until recent years, when renovation of the buildings began for antique and craft shops. Seated, from left, are Edward Haynes, Inis Cole, Guy Spradlin, Ed Bridges, Otis Bridges, Mayor Howard Lawson (father of Joe Lawson); and, in back, Marvin Cole, son of Inis Cole. Otis Bridges still serves on the council, and the town's recreation center is named after him and his wife, Avy, who was town clerk for a number of years.
