Mary Johnson (Shell) and Leroy H. Johnson are pictured in 1919 at the home-place of their parents, Nancy B. and Rhodes H. Johnson in Turin, Ga. Note the Delco Light System sign on the tree above the children. Mr. Johnson remembers that it was a 32-volt system. The tree, he said, was a hitching post for horses and buggies and stood until the late 1990s. (Note the early automobile at back left). The photo was provided by Leroy H. Johnson of Turin, Ga.

Starr High Basketball Team, 1928
Basketball season will soon be getting underway in Coweta County, and this photo gives a look back at the sport. These young ladies composed the basketball team at Starr High School in the Sharpsburg-Turin area in 1928. The team members are, in front, from left, Frances Couch, who played right forwards, and Annette Norton, who played left forward. On the second row is center Alice Ruby Hunter. In back are, from left, Zoe Bowden, right guard; and Ora Estep (Johnson), left guard. The trophy was won at a Union City tournament in 1928. Then the girls played five on a team and by boys' rules.
