Description
An account of the resource
Big red fire engines are a common-place sight in Newnan today, but before the automobile came into use the city had another way of fighting fires. This photograph shows an early horse-drawn fire engine in Newnan. For many years the Newnan Fire Department was at this location on LaGrange Street where Barron's appliance store is now. When the new fire station was built next to the Municipal Building on Jefferson Street, the fire department moved a toll pole used to slide down quickly to the engines.
