Description
Several photos have been provided of the old Starr High School in Sharpsburg, including this one from the Coweta County Board of Education files and one from James McKoon. The school was established in 1919 and was located by the side of the raiload tracks in Sharpsburg at the intersection of Georgia Highway 54 and Georgia Highway 16. It was named for J. Marvin Starr, who became superintendent of the Coweta County Schools in 1916. The school was closed in 1954 when the students were consolidated with several other school to form the East Coweta High School. Starr was superintendent of schools for Coweta County for 32 years. His term of office ended December 31, 1948. Starr High is one of the schools discussed in the "Coweta School Days" book.
