Downtown Newnan, early 1900s

Description

Downtown Newnan of the early 1900s is shown in this photograph. The view is from Jefferson Street looking south toward East Court Square in the years before the monument to Confederate soldiers in the War Between the States was moved. The monument placed in 1885 at the intersection of Jefferson and East Washington streets was later moved to the grounds of the Coweta county Courthouse. The building at left has housed Kessler's since 1927. Note the decorative work on the second stories of the buildings.
