DOLL HOUSE WAS FIXTURE AT COLE HOME

Subject

R.D. Cole Dollhouse for Centennial Celebration

Description

The doll house in this picture was built by R.D. Cole Manufacturing Company and put on exhibit for the Coweta Centennial September 1927. It was given by Edward Guy Cole to his daughter, Mrs. Minerva Cole Woodroof, who provided the photo. The picture shows the doll house when it was moved to Jackson Street on the lot next to Cole's home, shown in the background. The original doll house was painted white with stained front and side doors and molding around the windows. Three round decorative patterns over the front door were made from molds at R.D. Cole Company. The room inside the house had hardwood floors, molding and baseboard. Electric lights were added. The other miniature doll house (which was green with white trim) shown in the backyard, the white Chinnedale benches in the front yard and white picket fence were also made by R.D. Cole Company. Mrs. Woodroof passed her doll house down to several children in her family, including the late Susanne Jones, her daughter Minerva Woodroof Winslow at their home, and her great niece Ruth Arnall. At present, it belongs to her granddaughter, Holly Winslow, who has it at her home. The former Cole home is now owned by Mr. and Mrs. William Headley and will be on the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society's Hospitality Tour of Homes October 8 and 9.
