Subject

A Doctor's waiting room

Description

This doctor's office waiting room was the reception area for Dr. Thomas Jefferson Jones around the turn of the century. This photo is provided by Winnie Glover Klein, his granddaughter. Dr. Jones lived until June 26, 1916. The well-known physician completed his medical training in the 1870s and was an eye and ear specialist practicing in Hogansville and Newnan, according to a family history in the "History of Coweta County" published this year by the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society. Dr. Jones and his first wife, Virginia Savannah, had seven children, five of whom died in infancy. The two surviving children were Fannie Virginia Jones and John Littleton Jones. Virginia died in 1885. Dr. Jones' second wife was Mary Gibson, who was active in several patriotic organizations and was co-author of "Coweta County Chronicles," published in 1928. Mrs. Klein is one of nine children born to Fannie Jones Glover and her husband Howard Clark Glover, a prominent Coweta County businessman.
