Description
This theatre bill for the Alamo in downtown Newnan was for the week beginning Dec. 11, probably around 1921 or 1922. The movie "The Sheik" noted on the bill was released in 1921, according to Herb Bridges of the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society. The movie bill was among the items provided by Mrs. J. R. Downs of Sharpsburg previously published in Coweta Remembered. The week's movies included: Monday - Charles Ray in "Two Minutes To Go" with Pathe News; Tuesday - Constance Talmadge in "Lessons in Love" with International News; Wednesday - Rudolph Valentino and Agnes Ayers in "The Sheik" with Pathe News; Thursday and Friday - Monte Blue in "My Old Kentucky Home"; and Saturday, Richard Talmadge in "The Unknown" and Stan Laurel in "The Egg." It is noted on the back of the bill that the Newnan High School Boys would receive a portion of the admission of the first five days of the week. The high school orchestra was furnishing the music at afternoon shows featuring Miss Elizabeth Murray, piano; Miss Carolyn Manger, violin; Mr. Thomas Harper, violin; Mr. Hugh Perry, clarinet; Mr. Samuel Murray, saxophone; and Mr. Rubby Blalock, drums. The high school boys were selling tickets.
