Description

This view of the old Coweta County jail building on East Broad Street is from a small album entitled "Sixteen Views of Newnan, Ga.," which was published by the J.F. Lee Drug Co. in Newnan. The album was given to Mrs. Mary Parks by Mrs. Earlie Mae Hall. It is not known exactly when this photo was taken. The jail was constructed in 1911, according to a marble plaque mounted at the entrance. County Commissioners at the time were H.C. Glover, chairman; B.L. Redwine, vice-chairman; J.R. Cotton; J.E. Dial; and Z. Christopher. Other officers were J. Little Jones, clerk; and J.D. Brewster, sheriff. C. Loyd Preacher of Augusta was the architect and engineer, and it was constructed by Georgia Construction Company, Newnan, Ga.
