Description
This group of students composed a graduating class of McClelland Academy, which was located in Newnan across from the current swimming pool on Duncan Street. The academy was a school for black children sponsored by the Presbyterian Church. The buildings have been demolished, and only three steps remain as a reminder that the buildings stood there. In this 1917 photograph are, left to right, seated, Ruby White, Aquilla Washington, the Rev. W. Ellis, Lola Prater, Lela White; standing, Juanita Gates and Geneva Clark.
