Description
This was the office of Dr. Thomas Jefferson Jones around the turn of the century. The photo is provided by Winnie Glover Klein, his granddaughter, from a collection of her sister, the late Mary Nixon. Note the telephone on the wall at right and the medicine on the mantel at left. The well-known physician completed his medical training in the 1870s and was an eye and ear specialist practicing in Hogansville and Newnan. He lived until June 26, 1916. Dr. Jones and his first wife, Virginia Savannah, had seven children, five of whom died in infancy. The two surviving children were Fannie Virginia Jones and John Littleton Jones. Virginia died in 1885. Dr. Jones' second wife Mary Gibson was co-author of "Coweta County Chronicles," published in 1928. Mrs. Klein is one of nine children born to Fannie Jones Glover and her husband Howard Clarke Glover, a prominent Coweta County businessman. Among the other children are Newnan doctors Howard Glover and Nat Glover and attorney J. Littleton Glover Sr.
