Naval Academy Grad - Before and After

Forty-one years ago, on June 6, 1945, The Newnan Times-Herald ran the photo at left of three midshipmen who were graduating from the United States Naval Academy. All three were appointed to the academy from Coweta County by Congressman A. Sidney Camp. In June 1985 their class enjoyed a reunion at the academy, where the second photograph was taken. All three have retired after successful careers in the U.S. Navy. In the first photo are, seated, left to right, Manly Bowen and Bert Atkinson, and standing Johnny McCalla. In the second photo Bowen is seated, and standing are Atkinson, left, and McCalla, right.
