Title
Midway School
Subject
Midway School student 1924-25
Description
These youngsters were students at Midway School below Handy about 1924 or 1925, according to B.G. Stephens who provided the photo. He is at right on the second row. Mr. Stephens said he must have been about 12 years old when the picture was taken, and he figured the date of the picture from the time he was born in 1912. He thought he might have been about the fifth grade, though school years were different back then. Students had to help on the farms and went to school about four months in the winter and six weeks to two months in the summer. That made for about six months of schooling a year. In the photo are, from left, front, Dan Jackson, Carl Jackson, Harold Kidd and a boy with the last name Pruitt; second row, Roy Jackson, "Hog Eye" Pruitt, Pete McKenzie and B.G. Stephens; back, Ray and Raiford Stephens, the twin brother of Mr. Stephens. The teacher was Miss Nannette Walden.
