Description

Coweta County's first public school, the old Temple Avenue School, was built in 1888 and served until it was abandoned in 1956 upon the completion of Elm Street Elementary School. The building was demolished in May 1972. This photo is the second grade class of 1912-13. A good many of the students' names were remembered, although the front row is unidentified. Other include, from left, second row, John Davis, Jim Barron, (-unknown), (4-unknown), Mallory Atkinson, King Smith, Roger Pate, Theron Welch, Herbert McKoy; third row, Joe Brown Myers, Hugh Hamrick, Tom Rotland, Freeman Tolbert, (other five unknown); back, (1-unknown), Jas Thoroughman, Sam Murray, Hamilton Hall, Homer McDonald, Virginia Parks, Annie Clifford Grimes Upshaw and Susan Kidd.
